Sputnik Petal Flush Mount Light

A flush mount ceiling light with slim arms radiating from a central hub, each tipped with an acrylic petal, giving the sputnik or firework shape without the drop of a chandelier. Because it mounts tight to the ceiling, the spread happens outward rather than downward. Head counts run from 12 up to 42, so the same design can be a modest fixture or fill a large ceiling.

Design and materials

The frame is ironware with acrylic petals and a ground, matte metal finish, offered in gold and black. The radiating form has a clear art deco character, and the number of arms changes it considerably: the lower counts read as graphic and restrained, the higher counts as a full starburst. Gold warms the fixture and catches light along the arms, while black makes the outline sharper against a white ceiling. The LED light sources are built in and included, with a touch on/off switch.

Where it works

With a 15–30 sq m rating, the larger 30 and 42 light versions are made for a living room, dining room or open-plan space where the fixture is meant to be seen, while the 12 and 18 light versions fit a bedroom, foyer, study or kitchen. The flush mounting makes it workable in rooms with a standard ceiling height where a hanging sputnik would be too low. Single-tier versions keep the arms on one plane for a flatter look; the double-tier layouts stack the arms for more depth. The light is supplied in neutral white.
