Ostrich Feather Pendant Chandelier

A suspended chandelier built from a plated metal frame ringed with ostrich feathers, so the fixture reads as texture rather than hardware. The feathers diffuse the light from four E14 sources into a soft halo instead of a direct beam, which is the whole point of the design. Four diameters from 60 cm to 120 cm let it work as a bedroom feature or as the centerpiece of a hotel lobby.

Design and materials

The structure is metal with a plated finish, and the feathers are ostrich: 32 on the 60 cm and 80 cm frames, 34 or 39 on the 100 cm and 120 cm frames depending on the version chosen. It comes in gray, black, purple, red, white, orange and pink, which is unusually wide for a fixture of this kind, so it can either disappear into a pale room in white or act as the single colored object in it. The look is modern and decorative rather than architectural.

Where it works

With 15-30 sq m of coverage the 100 cm and 120 cm sizes suit a living room, a master bedroom or a hotel hall where the ceiling is high enough to carry a suspended fixture of that diameter. The 60 cm and 80 cm sizes fit a study or a secondary bedroom. White and gray keep the texture and lose the color; black makes a graphic silhouette; pink, red, purple and orange commit the room to the fixture, so choose those only where the palette can take it. Warm light flatters the feathers most; cool light makes the frame read more modern.
