Round Travertine Wood Ceiling Downlight

A compact round downlight that pairs a travertine stone shade with a wood base, surface mounted straight onto the ceiling. At 12cm across and 10cm deep it is deliberately small, and the open stone and wood construction gives it texture that a painted metal fixture cannot. The 7W E27 lamp throws a soft pool of light rather than broad room illumination.

Design and materials

The shade is travertine, offered in a black or yellow stone, set on a wood base available in a walnut or lighter wood tone. Travertine is a naturally pitted stone, so the surface pattern varies between pieces and gives each fixture its own grain. The pairing of raw stone with visible wood puts it in wabi-sabi, Japanese, and natural-material interiors rather than hard-edged modern schemes.

Where it works

With 3–5 sq m of coverage and a single 7W lamp, this is a fixture for a small or transitional space rather than a main room: an entry, a porch, a corridor, a balcony, or above a stair landing. Its small footprint also means several can be run down a hallway at intervals instead of one central light. Choose the black stone where you want the fixture to register as a dark point against a pale ceiling, and the yellow stone for a warmer, softer read; the walnut base deepens the contrast while the lighter wood keeps it closer to the stone tone.
